Picnic at the Runway: Summer Edition

Good food, cold drinks, and tall tales under the big Arizona skies.

Come on out and join the Chino Valley Flyers for our Picnic at the Runway: Summer Edition! It’s the perfect way to beat the heat, enjoy some great food, and spend time with the people who make this club special. Pilots, families, and friends are all welcome—no transmitter required.

The fun starts at 4:00pm at CVF Field and will continue until everybody’s gone home (or the food is gone). It will be an open fly day do come on out and swap flying stories, check out what’s on the workbench, and maybe sneak in a few flights before or after you fill up on all the shared goodies. It’s relaxed, informal, and a great way to enjoy the field and friends.

Where: Chino Valley Flyers Field, Chino Valley, AZ
When: Saturday, July 11, 2026
Time: 4:00pm to ?

General Information

We’re asking everyone to bring a favorite potluck dish based on the first letter of your last name:

    • A through I: Side dish. Baked beans, mac & cheese, corn bread, deviled eggs, etc.
    • J through R: Salad. Greens, fruit, pasta, cole slaw… you know what we mean.
    • S through Z: Dessert. Wow everyone with your favorite cupcakes, Rice Krispie treats, brownies, sheet cake, cheesecake, pecan bars, or pretty much anything sweet.
    • Everyone is asked to bring your own meat dish (which you won’t have to share—unless you bring bacon, in which case, you’d better bring enough for everyone).

A hot grill and cooking utensils will be provided for those who bring something that needs some cooking at the field (burgers, dogs, steaks, shrimp, etc.).

Bring enough for yourself and to share with at least 10 people. Coffee, sodas, water, plates, cups, plastic flatware, and tablecloths will all be provided so all you need to bring is an appetite and something tasty to share.

Call For Volunteers

If you’d like to help out or if you’re feeling like your contribution should be first in line, there’s no better way than to get there around 2:30pm and help with the setup. That way maybe you can be the person who makes sure the anxious eaters see your culinary effort before all the others.
